December Blog-o-sphere Topic: What are you hoping to accomplish in 2013?
| yes, i know Ewe is knitting and not embroidering, but i went with what i had |
Well, now that I've left my year of failing behind, I can say I have countless ideas swimming disjointedly around in my head of things I'd like to accomplish this year, both personal and pottery wise, but I'm not willing to share except for this one: I feel the need for a non-clay creative hobby, and I've had a nagging urge to embroider. I'm not sure where that's coming from except that my mom loved needlework, and I embroidered a few times from kits as a crafty kid and now in the last year sometimes this blog makes me swoon.
I also recently found these:
| The stitching on back of these looks great on one but less great on the other which makes me think Mom helped . Maybe Mom helped a lot. |
I was surprised to come across them and even more surprised I saved them. I embroidered these place mats in grade school (I think?) in 1970 something or another, and I believe they were adapted from a historical design for an American History project rather than for an art project. Anyways, if visions of embroidery have nagged me enough to talk about it here, it may be time to pick up the needle and floss and give it a go. Maybe I'll share here. We'll see.

Sounds like a great meditative hobby. I used to do mosaics for the same reason. Something so relaxing about cutting tiny pieces into shapes and placing them like a puzzle. Seems like embroidery would fill the same need. Good luck! Thanks again for adding me to the post! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Mary -- we'll see where it goes :)
DeleteIt's great to have different creative outlets! Embroidery sounds fun. I love that you have those placemats you made so long ago!!! Andes
ReplyDeleteI know! I was surprised - I'd forgotten I'd made them.
DeleteI used to embroider and I found a great deal of satisfaction working with my hands in that way. I hope you enjoy it too; I have a feeling you will! The placemats from your past are very cool.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kathleen - From the little I remember, I think I'll enjoy it too.
Deletei love handwork for the meditation it provides for my soul.
ReplyDelete[i hope my requested pottery piece is on your list, too! (wink, wink)]
It's underway and will be in the next kiln. YAY :)
DeleteI enjoy your post as always:) great that you found the place mats! I did many many crafts when I was kids but I don't have anything left. I do enjoy sewing time to time as hobby. it's good to have hobby is not your lively hood. you can truly enjoy and don't have to do it if you don't want to:)
ReplyDeleteI agree! Thanks Natsuko :)
DeleteThe last time I went through a needlecraft phase I spent the Summer Tatting!
